Tickets for Swound! live
at Barfly Camden in London.
Brothers Joe and Tom Staszkiewicz, originally from the Isle of Man formed a band at University. The band built up a strong local following but something wasn’t right. In 2007, Rowan and Lloyd Staszkiewicz joined the lineup. This made Nottingham based Swound! a four piece band of real brothers.Their first single together “What’s Your Poison?” gave the band press and radio coverage and a session at Maida Vale Studios with Rob Da Bank. A few singles later and Swound! were invited to play Radio 1’s Big Weekend. They were the first unsigned band to contribute a track to USA’s crossover kid’s phenomenon “Yo Gabba Gabba!” (and one of only two British bands ever). Topping off the year their track “We Are a Danger” was included on Kerrang! – The Album ’09.
All the while, they gained more fans and plaudits at radio from the likes of Steve Lamacq, Huw Stevens, Rob Da Bank, John Kennedy and Ian Camfield which led to successful live sessions at Radio 1, XFM and Kerrang! radio.
The band then embarked on their most ambitious project to date: Challenge Swound!, in support of their single “Predator 3” where the public were asked to challenge the brothers to do anything they could think of. They made the national press with features in The Guardian, Kerrang! and Rock Sound whilst the band worked through completing hundreds of challenges including ‘The Great Mosh Challenge’, ‘100 Meter World Record Challenge’ and ‘3 Man Skateboard’.
Proud of their independent achievements, Swound! have taken responsibility for their own career path, filming videos (‘Oh No!’ was critically acclaimed by none other than Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim), releasing music (with successful mini album “Hello Future, Our Name is Swound!) and producing their own artwork throughout. The last two years hard work has culminated in the debut full length album, “Into The Sea” which draws heavily on the Swound!’s love of 90s guitar bands such as Nirvana, Pixies, Weezer and Pavement. The album was self-produced, then mixed by the legendary Chris Sheldon and will be released on their own label The Grelmin Corporation in February. The package will also contain an accompanying DVD which will include a feature length documentary of the recording process, entitled “Whatever Happened, Happened."
